The best ways to prepare for a 5k run

posted by tanyanicole on 16-07-2010 à 09:42

I've never been much of a runner. All my current and childhood sports never involved running. Mostly, they revolved around muscle strength and balance over endurance. So I'm here today to ask for your help! :o) Haha

It's recently come to my attention that I might be joining a 5k run at the end of the month. I'll be upping my cardio workouts and adding a few hours of jogging to my week. But I want to know what you would do!

To all the runners out there, what do you do to prepare for a big run?

I'm a little bit worried about the run this Sunday. Most of last week, I was sick and had absolutely no physical activity. I have a lot of catching up to do!

I figure though that I'll just have fun with it and do my best. Right? Haha

A week before the run eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of fluids. On the nught before the run relax, don't stuff yourself and have your gears ready (shorts, socks, race bib, and running shoes). Then on the da of the run eat a good breakfast, do your warm up and most important be on time.

I kind of loaded up on carbs for dinner last night...I'm amazed that I was able to handle this morning's run pretty well. I hope I can keep this up until race day.

Running a few k a day and eating protein rich food will be a good way to prepare for a 5 km run. Am going to do a 4 k run for the first time so my gym buddies are helping me to prepare too.unnnn

Cycling is an excellent discipline that can build one’s endurance. This sport uses all the muscles of the body, including the thighs and calves. It improves one’s breathing and heart rate.

This is going to be my first 5k in 7 years. I might have to put basketball on hold and do my early morning runs again. My usual 45-minute route, 4x a week. I know there's only less than two weeks to prepare, but it should be possible!

I'm not a runner. :) But hope this can help.  Build your stamina and endurance by doing stretching and practice everyday. Try to jog and run slowly but surely, Increasing the repetition and the time according to you  :) Then your body will get used to it before the big run.

I am planning also to join 5k run maybe in a month or 2.I'll just walk if hindi na talaga kaya. hehehehe

Good luck to your endeavor. :)
