What do you listen to?

posted by allen on 25-11-2008 à 08:52

I believe all of us listen to some form of music. What do you guys prefer when you work out or when you just want to chill out?

Music is a good mood manager. It perks you up when you need the energy and composes you when you want to be calm and collected.

They play alot of mind-numbing pop where I work out. BUT there was this time when old-skool hip-hop started blasting...

I discovered that hard-hitting "gangsta" beats totally get me pumped up when lifting weights or boxing!

Erm, to risk sound like a weirdo, I listen to more agressive tunes when I workout....metalcore, grindcore, alternative metal. They just pump me up and they remind me of my underground band days hehehe

i love listening to fast beats when I exercise. Here's a mashup of a bunch of songs that help put me in the mood to workout. a bit outdated, but when i was listening to this last night it took me back to a happier time. It's always good to listen to music that brings good memories with it.

My music folder is around 40gigabytes. In terms of number of songs, that's over 5,000. It pretty much depends on my mood. Right now I'm more into laid-back country/jazz music.

Below are some of the songs currently on my playlist:

  1. "Teardrop" by Massive Attack
  2. "See the World" by Gomez
  3. "Walter Reed" by Michael Penn
  4. "Beautiful" by Elvis Costello
  5. "Dear God" by Sarah McLachlan
  6. "Feelin' Alright" by Joe Cocker
  7. "Waiting on an Angel" by Ben Harper
  8. "Got To Be More Careful" by Jon Cleary & the Absolute Monster Gentlemen
  9. "God, Please Let Me Go Back" by Josh Rouse
  10. "Are You Alright?" by Lucinda Williams
  11. "Good Man" by Josh Ritter
  12. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by Band From TV

Shoutout to Jason Derulo. He's more R'nB and his entire album is great as a workout playlist. ^_^

I have a wide variety of music genre on my collection....I listen to bossa nova, the whole gregorian chant albums, instrumental like Kenny G., Jim Chappell, David Benoit, Acoustic music (mostly foreign artists), Bjork, Afro-African music, Deep Forest Albums, David Arkenstone music collection.  When I do my cardio, I play modern songs like those of Lady Gaga, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Beyonce and the like.  They are really upbeat so makes me wanna dance and sweat as well.

While walking or taking a jog I usually listen to kpop songs. There is something with these songs that makes me want to lose weight. Hehe! =)

My favorite is still classical and opera but since I started working out, I expanded my playlist to include upbeat songs from pop, rock and hip-hop. Unless I'm with my Tai-Chi group, classical isn't the best work-out music.

Anything not on local radio. I like listening to Last.fm radio.

Same here Allen. I like to listen to a lot of things, but my staples involve classic poplike the Beatles and the Velvet Underground, Brit Rock, and moody male singers.

While we're at it, I do love moody female singers as well. Fiona Apple is a favorite of mine. Here's a lovely sample:

You asked "What do you listen to?" so that means it could be music or sounds.

In the morning I enjoy listening to the chirping of birds near my window. It reminds me that it's morning and..(time to get up and work!)

I loooove to listen to Bossa Nova during breakfast, especially if I'm cooking. It's relaxing and it makes my day.

At work, (when my old school player was not yet stolen...grr) I listen to rock music, jazz and pop. Depends on the artists.

But what keeps me going is reggae. It adds spice to my day, especially when the hot summer sun is up. It reminds me of my beloved homecountry which celebrates summer all throughout the year!!

I normally prefer rock but those who have explored my Ipod know my very diverse tastes. The only thing I don't like are overly sentimental songs.

Since you're reading this why don't you check this french musician out. His name is Mattrach and he is only 17 now. I posted some videos below. Its all instrumental so its good for chilling out.
